Saliva testing is another service we provide to our patients. A saliva test is a lab test used to detect your body's hormone levels. The test is used for both men and women who feel that their hormone levels may be out of normal range based on symptoms that they are experiencing. Women often use this test during or after menopause. Men often use the test as they get older and experience what is called "andropause."

What hormones are tested?
Depending on the patient, multiple hormone levels can be tested. The lab test can determine the levels of estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol.

Saliva tests are over the counter purchases and do not require a prescription. However, it is recommended that you make an appointment with our pharmacist to get the best results from your testing. Our trained pharmacists will meet with patients, take a brief history including symptoms and goals of therapy, and then explain the test procedures. Once the results are received, they will contact you to explain what the lab test has discovered and make a recommendation to your doctor as to what the best course of action will be. A prescription compound can then be prepared when your doctor decides on the best course of action for you.

The cost of the test varies depending on how many hormones are tested. The number of hormones to be tested is determined by your symptoms, which can be interpreted by our pharmacist in order to recommend the appropriate hormones to be tested.

Call to schedule an appointment and a pharmacist will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
